What’s Required for God’s Protection

The Bible tells us that the last days, the very days in which we live, will be perilous or dangerous (2 Timothy 3:1). Yet in the midst of it all, God has
promised us protection and safety.

But just as is true about all of God’s promises, His promise of divine protection doesn’t happen automatically just because we’re Christians. Salvation
isn’t automatic. Healing isn’t automatic. The infilling of the Holy Spirit isn’t automatic. Not one of God’s promises is automatic.

The truth is, there are two sides to all of God’s promises. We must do something to activate His promises before they begin functioning in our lives.

For instance, according to Romans 10:9,10 in order to be born again, we must confess (or say) with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart
that God has raised Him from the dead. Once we have done our part, God’s does His part to recreate our spirit.

Confessing God’s promise doesn’t only apply to being born again, it is the way we receive everything else from God, including supernatural protection.
We have a part to play in our own protection and safety.

Psalm 91:1 demonstrates this principle from the very first verse. It says: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow
of the Almighty” (NKJV). The opening words of this Psalm establish what we must do before we can expect divine protection. Our part is to
dwell in the secret place of the Most High God and abide under His shadow.

A person can be born again and live his entire life without abiding in the secret place of the Most High God, and as a result, miss out on God’s provision
for safety and protection here on earth.

Verse 2 reveals continues saying, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust'” (NKJV). Notice we must
say something in order to receive protection: “I will say…” No matter what we receive from God, we will always be required to speak God’s promise
out loud! In order to receive protection, we must say, “He is my refuge, my fortress. In Him alone will I trust!”

Although Psalm 91 tells us what to say, too often some make unscriptural statements such as: “We never know what God’s going to do. After all, God is in
control. If it’s our time to go…”

Speaking against God’s Word hinders God’s protective power! Those words give the kingdom of darkness an open door into our lives. Disaster and calamity
aren’t accidents; they are the result of well-planned strategies of the kingdom of darkness. And when we refuse to speak what God’s Word promises,
we open ourselves up to be caught in the enemy’s snare. Watch what you say!
