Living With Confidence

As joint heirs with Jesus, we have access to everything His Kingdom has provided. His love now fills us, and His Spirit now leads us. Sonship frees us
from fear and gives us the confidence to call God our Father. We have entered into the same inheritance that Jesus Himself possesses.

Sonship means we can stand confidently in the same position of right-standing with God that Jesus enjoys. Jesus is free from sin, sickness, and fear, and
because we are in Him, we share this freedom.

The inheritance our Heavenly Father has bestowed on us contains gifts beyond natural description, and every one of them is for our good and our benefit.
As James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation
or shadow of turning” (NKJV).

All of these powerful promises indicate that as children of God, we have the capacity to be led by the Holy Spirit, to receive every aspect of God’s promises,
and to live confidently in His love, free from fear. This is not something we must keep trying to qualify for, Jesus Himself has already qualified
us!

Jesus taught this very truth the day He described a father who had two sons (Luke 15:11-32). The younger son came to his father and demanded his portion
of his inheritance. Once he received his inheritance from his father, the son left home.

This passage of Scripture provides us with a great deal of insight not only about the father in Jesus’ story, but also about our Heavenly Father. In fact,
this story is actually more about the father than his sons.

This father held nothing back from either of his sons; rather, he freely gave them everything he had available to give them. While this younger son was
away in a foreign land wasting his inheritance, his father continued to believe that his beloved son would one day return. When that wonderful day
came, the father saw his son in the distance and ran to greet him with love and to welcome him back into the household.

The son began to repent to his father, stating, “I am not worthy to be your son…” But the father didn’t listen to his son’s prepared speech. Instead,
he immediately stopped the young man and called for the servants to bring the robe, the ring, and the shoes of sonship to bestow upon the son who had
been restored to him.

Our acceptance in the presence of God is not because we do everything right. No one does everything right, and that includes those of us who call ourselves
Christians. No, we are accepted by our Heavenly Father because we come to Him in faith. Our right-standing before Him is a free gift.

This son was forgiven by his father before he ever returned home. Yet he lived outside the comfort and blessing of the family until he “came to himself.”
The moment he returned to his father in repentance, he was given the robe of right-standing, the ring of family authority, and the shoes of sonship
that separated him from every servant in the house. We are not to be a servant in our Father’s house, we are sons with privileges.
