Need Direction?

Proverbs 3:6 says: “In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths” (AMP).

As we seek to know the Lord, we will find the direction we need. The Living Bible says it this way: “In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” In other words, the Lord will crown our lives with abundant living when we seek Him first.

There is a vast difference between knowing a person’s actions and knowing what is deep in his heart. It is the same way with God. When I speak of knowing God, I am not merely referring to His actions; instead, I’m suggesting much more.

Knowing God intimately means knowing His character and qualities; then, going beyond the recognition of what they are and experiencing those qualities in our everyday lives. The final result of anyone who will know Him on that level will be the reflection of His ways in their lives.

Psalm 103:7 says, “He revealed his will and nature to Moses and the people of Israel.” Israel witnessed the mighty acts and the miracles God performed. They observed the plagues that came upon Egypt, the dividing of the Red Sea, water gushing from a rock, and the manna sent from heaven to feed them. Israel saw miracle after miracle, but despite what they saw, they continued to accuse God and curse His servants.

Moses, however, saw the same miracles but understood far more than the others. He knew God! Deep within his heart, he knew a God of righteousness and justice.

What made Moses different from the rest of God’s people? There was a uniqueness about Moses that separated him from the other men of his day. His prayer in Exodus 33:13 gives us a glimpse of what was important to him.

“Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You [progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, perceiving and recognizing and understanding more strongly and clearly] and that I may find favor in Your sight” (AMP).

He was so hungry to know the Lord intimately that knowing His outward actions would never be enough! Moses sought such closeness between himself and God that he began to clearly understand the desires of God’s heart and know what brought Him joy.

God is looking for people whose hearts are devoted to Him because of Who He is, and not merely for what He does. These are the people to whom He will show Himself strong.

Will you be one of those people who want to bring delight and pleasure to the heart of their Heavenly Father; who will seek Him diligently, and will come to understand His ways? A life of excitement and joy awaits you if you will accept this challenge.
