One of the central themes of the Bible is: Fear not. In one form or another, God gives us that command over 95 times. Eighty times when He tells us not to fear, He accompanies that command with promises of protection. He puts the two together because the promises in His Word are what remove fear from our lives.
He said in Proverbs 1:33, “But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, you will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life” (TPT). So the person who chooses to listen to and believe the Lord, rather than what the news media reports or what man says, will not live with tormenting dread or fear. Instead he’ll abide in peace and tranquility, safe and secure from all harm, surrounded by the calm assurance of God’s faithful protection.
The coronavirus is not the first time God has caused His people to be victorious over a plague! Remember what happened with the Israelites during the plagues of Egypt? During the plagues, God sent the Israelites His Word through Moses. He instructed them to cover their doorposts with blood, they listened, obeyed, and were protected. But Egypt refused to listen to what God said and suffered through all the plagues until the most devastating last plague when the firstborn in every household died.
It would have been easy for the Hebrews to dismiss the words of Moses. They could have decided he’d lost his mind. After all, nobody had ever put blood over a doorpost for protection in the past. For that matter, nobody had ever heard of a plague that singled out and killed only the firstborn child.
If they’d depended on their own natural reasoning, the Hebrews would have doubted the instructions the Lord had given Moses. They would have ignored God’s Word and they would have suffered just like the Egyptians. The same is true for us as believers today. If we let our natural reasoning determine the course we take, we’ll be in trouble. We’ll miss out on God’s plan because our natural mind can’t grasp it. For “the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death” (Rom. 8:6, AMPC).
As I’ve pointed out throughout my new book, Help! It’s Dangerous Out Here – Walking in Supernatural Protection (see below), listening to and obeying the voice of the Lord is quite often a matter of life and death! But what we choose to do is up to us. The Hebrews chose wisely. They listened to and obeyed the Lord’s instruction. So, when the death angel came through the land, it passed over every home in Goshen that had blood on its doorpost.
God had promised them in Exodus 12:13, “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt” (NKJV). And God kept that promise.
He’ll do the same for you. When you apply the blood of Jesus over your family and home, “no plague will touch you or destroy you.” You have God’s promise. You can stand on it. If you cover yourself and your loved ones in the blood of Jesus, danger will pass over you. You and your household will be protected.
