In the previous two devotionals we have discussed the two words used in Psalm 91 in which God promises to deliver us.
The third word deliver in Psalm 91 is found in verses 15-16.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation (KJV).
This verse uses yet a third Hebrew word. It means to deliver by equipping for battle. Although God promises to be with us in trouble, He does not promise trouble won’t find us. While He says our deliverance will come, He does not say we’ll avoid all trouble.
In this instance God indicates we’ll be delivered by the spiritual equipment He has given us to stand up to adversity without being swayed or stopped. We’ll be delivered as we use the spiritual weapons God has given us to enforce the devil’s defeat.
You do have such weapons, you know!
As Second Corinthians 10:4 says, these weapons are “not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (NKJV). They’re not weapons of flesh and blood, but weapons of spiritual warfare identified in Ephesians 6:17 as “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (NKJV).
His Word in our mouth becomes the equipment and weapon of war to blast through the enemy’s strategies. Notice Second Timothy 3:16 from the Phillips translation:
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the faith and correcting error, for resetting the direction of a man’s life and training him in good living. The scriptures are the comprehensive equipment of the man of God, and fit him fully for all branches of his work.
God’s Word is the equipment that we use in the face of every attack. The power to deliver us comes when we speak God’s words of dominion. The mature believer practices the habit of speaking according to God’s Word and not the circumstances.
When you put God’s Word in your mouth and your prayers, you release His power to go to work for you. Use the Word like the sword it is. Wield it with skill and impose God’s will and His Word on the circumstances that confront you. Turn your own words into mighty spiritual tools and weapons of battle. Launch an attack that darkness will not be able to withstand.
When Satan comes against you, conquer him by declaring powerful promises like this one:
No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord (Is. 54:17 NKJV).
This is the mature believer’s mindset. Our thoughts won’t fall into despair and fear over the battle that may be raging. We will avoid the snares of our enemy. We not only avoid trouble, but we will take a firm grip on the weapons of war God has provided us and wield His power effectively with the assurance that His Word is all powerful.
So, fill your words with faith in God’s Word. Declare that He is your Deliverer and that no hellish strategy formed against you can succeed. You have God’s angels surrounding you with all His resources available to you. His words in Isaiah 41:10 are His words to you: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (NKJV).
