One of the most important aspects of continuing success is our ability to focus. If Satan can change our focus he can steal our strength. Notice what Jesus said in Luke 11:34:
"The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness" (NKJV).
The illumination and energy that light brings is produced because our eyes remain on the source of light. Whatever we have decided to allow into our eyes will determine the direction of our lives. We can choose to allow the light of God's Word into our lives and He will cause us to succeed. Or we can choose to allow darkness to remain and the path of our lives will not turn out well. Either way, it's our choice.
Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (NKJV). When we remain single-minded and focused on the Word of God that is deposited in our hearts, it fills us with light that effects our entire body. When our path is illuminated by the light of God's Word, success is sure!
As Prime Minister, Joseph was in the position to supply the food and provision his family needed to survive during the famine that was in the land. The dream Joseph had received so many years ago was finally fulfilled. His entire family came to him for help, and he became their deliverer. God gave Joseph the plan that would not only deliver his family but would deliver Egypt and the surrounding region.
The dreams and desires God gives us are not supposed to frustrate us, but rather to keep us on course for success. They can help us keep our focus even through the most difficult times — Joseph proved that.
Regretfully, many good people lose their way when they fail to remain faithful to their God-given goals. And far too many Christians embrace the goals that carnal people deem important or even goals that satisfy their flesh. When they do, they exchange God-given dreams for the ways of the world.
The spirit of the world says, "If it feels good, or if it's something that will impress others, it is the right thing to do." Yet, the standard of the world is never going to fulfill the dreams God places within our hearts. James warns us about having a wrong relationship with the world: "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God" (NKJV).
However, those who rise up successfully and receive God's best are those who are faithful to discover God's will, and then pursue it!
God is looking for nothing less than someone who will think His thoughts, pray His prayers, speak His Words and pursue the hopes and dreams He has given them until they become reality. We cannot allow our God-given dreams die!
