When a person is focused only on natural life, then the way that person addresses every issue is going to be completely natural.
“It’s only natural!” is the reason often given for so many fears, feelings, attitudes, and reactions—they’re simply “natural.”
“It’s only natural that we are afraid.” The daily non-stop updates about Covid-19 can create fear and uncertainty that weighs heavy on those who lean toward the natural world’s way of thinking.
“It’s natural to be afraid, stressed, distressed, or…” (you can fill in the blank).
Of course, it’s true that it is “only natural,” at least for the “natural person.”
Yet as believers, we are no longer confined by the limitations of this natural world. Bible-believing Christians have been infused with God’s supernatural, divine life. Natural responses don’t have to limit us any longer. We have God’s supernatural power available to us.
Notice what Second Peter 1:3-4 says:
“As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (NKJV).
What powerful and life-changing statements! Notice specifically that it says God has deposited in believers everything we could ever need to live in abundant life that manifests His promises. The Divine life of God is within and will drive out fear, virus, or any disease. Jesus has overcome it all and filled us with His nature. As a result, every word He has promised will empower us to participate in His divine nature.
The Greek word used here for “partakers” is koinonos, which means to participate as a partner, to partake of, to be a companion with, or to have fellowship with the divine nature. God literally shares His nature with us. We have His DNA in our inner man!
We have a new nature—and what comes naturally now has radically changed—the fruit growing within is love, joy, peace, faith, and other aspects of our Father’s DNA. His love is what comes naturally for the person who has made the choice to live by this new nature. The true believer is born of love—born with His nature. That means that infused within us are all the attributes and power of God’s nature. And since we are one with Him, this now defines our nature as well. Whatever can be said of the Father can be said of His family.
What is supposed to happen, then, when we are hit by reports of how many new cases or deaths from this virus are reported—when we let our guard down and say things or fail to focus on God’s promise of protection?
I know what I do. Immediately I get my thinking turned back around, I take hold of God’s Word, acknowledge it, repent and declare that Jesus has delivered me from sickness and disease. There is always an instant change in my mind and attitude.
Anytime we fail or fall into fear, we can get back up and stand confidently in God’s Word, knowing that He has already conquered this for us.
Remember, the very fact that He has given us His Word about healing and protection from pestilence tells us that that’s exactly what He wants for every single one of us. It is undisputed and settled, “…with long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation” (Psalm 91:16).
